Weddings with Sam Wong and the SIGMA 24-70mm Art

Using the SIGMA 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM | Art for Weddings

Sam Wong has been photographing weddings for over 15 years in Toronto. Traditionally, Sam has relied on fast prime lenses for his weddings, but the SIGMA 24-70mm f2.8 DG OS HSM | Art lens opened new opportunities to travel lighter and provide more flexibility in capturing ceremonies and receptions. To demonstrate the abilities of the SIGMA 24-70mm Art in a wedding situation, while providing the opportunity to film the whole thing, we setup a shoot with our lovely models Ming Bo Lam and Mark Nuttall at a recently converted church just outside of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. All of Sam’s images were shot on the SIGMA 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM | Art with a Canon 5D Mark III.

Behind the Scenes

How We Shot The Film

The commercial and accompanying photos were shot over a single day on the outskirts of Cambridge, Ontario. A mix of RED Epic-W 8K and RED Epic 6K cameras were paired with the SIGMA Cine series of lenses. The Sigma CINE 18-35mm T2 spent the majority of the day on the DJI Ronin, while the Sigma CINE 85mm T1.5 handled a lot of the tripod and tight details, with other lenses mixed throughout depending on the situation.

More about the SIGMA 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM | Art

The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG HSM OS Art is a premium workhorse zoom lens designed for the latest high megapixel DSLRs. A constant aperture of 2.8 through the zoom range makes this a highly versatile tool and a brand new Optical Stabilization (OS) system helps compensate for camera shake. Though a common focal length, the Sigma 24-70mm Art brings a new level of usability and durability featuring a rugged metal barrel and an emphasis on image quality.

Building off the experience from the 12-24mm Art, the aspherical elements used in the 24-70mm F2.8 OS Art undergo a highly precise level of polishing, producing elements thicker in the center than on the edges. This process creates stunning image quality and beautiful circular bokeh.

Like each and every Global Vision Lens, the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG HSM OS Art is handcrafted at our single factory in Aizu, Japan and undergoes individual evaluation before leaving Sigma’s facility.
