Taiwan with Tobias Wang and the Sigma Art Series

Toronto photographer Tobias Wang (@visualbass) recently took a trip to Taiwan with a rather light bag of camera gear. Along with his Nikon D750, he packed just two lenses – the SIGMA 24-70mm f2.8 DG OS HSM | Art and the SIGMA 135mm f1.8 DG HSM | Art.

“I was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, and immigrated to Toronto, Canada with my family when I was 11. I remember the streets and the neighbourhoods in Taipei fondly – filled with working class people, the city came alive at night with food stalls and night markets. Going back home as an adult when all your memories are all from a child’s perspective is quite the trip. Buildings that once looked massive and roads that stretched endlessly suddenly seem so much smaller. The colours of the buildings and the smells from the street markets stayed the same, but the people and the culture flourished beyond my expectations. My most recent trip back in had even deeper meaning for me. I had the opportunity to introduce my son to Taipei and show him for the first time where I grew up.

I brought two of the Sigma Art lenses with me to document our journey – the 24-70mm f2.8 OS and the 135mm f1.8. The 24-70mm was my every day lens, the versatile range covered most of my needs where ever we went and the Optical Stabilization was crucial for maintaining sharpness during longer exposures in low light. The 135mm was so sharp and focused so fast! It’s long range and wide aperture were fantastic for candid street portraits, night or day.

Hope you’ll enjoy these images from Taipei!”
